Suriname

Suriname is a Dutch-speaking, multicultural country in South America, with various ethnic groups, namely Maroons, Indigenous people, Hindustanis, Javanese, Creoles, and now increasingly, Chinese.
Suriname has a population of less than one million, although its land area is larger than that of the Netherlands. The currency is the Surinamese Dollar (SRD), but other currencies, especially the Euro and USD, are also widely used.
The official or mother tongue is Dutch, but due to the multicultural composition, there are multiple languages; each group has its own language in addition to the mother tongue, and some of these languages are further subdivided.
The country has a history of slavery, which was not a pleasant one, and was considered one of the most brutal in history.
Suriname was a colony of the Netherlands and gained independence in 1975.

The country is now a Democratic Republic with a President as its head of state.

Tourists enjoy the interior of Suriname, which is lush and green, with people who still live in tribal communities, maintaining their traditions. You can sail in a dugout canoe through rapids or take a dip in one of the “sula’s” (rapids) that provide a natural water massage. You can also enjoy the diverse cultures of the various groups, particularly their dance and music styles.

In short, it is a beautiful country… a visit will do you no harm.
